Amid Hummers Night Dream Eye Catcher Home Decor

“When the first baby laughed for the first time, his laugh broke into a million pieces, and they all went skipping about. That was the beginning of fairies.” At least, that’s how J.M. Barrie told it in a chapter about Peter Pan in his novel The Little White Bird. (Thank you, Wikipedia!)

I was thinking about woodland faeries today, laughing and tossing tiny snowballs at their woodland creature friends as they peek out from their hibernation burrows. I can imagine those wee folk being a bit restless this time of year while flora and fauna are sleeping.

I know how they feel. Much as I love the mystery and beauty of silver-white winters, I also miss my walks in sun-warmed nature, smelling the fresh spring-green earth. I would so enjoy seeing a toadstool faery ring again, and to quietly watch my woodland animal neighbors at play.

But, it is winter’s turn right now, so the best I can do is bring the faeries in to play. How? Simple – invite them with their own images. A lovely tile here, a pretty figurine there – and my home is as sweetly welcoming as wild strawberries. Sure, the mischievous imps will likely hide my car keys or make socks go missing out of the dryer, but I haven’t the heart to let them tease a rabbit or squirrel out of much-needed rest. Besides, when I see them out of the corner of my eye, I feel my own million-piece bubbles of baby-laughter well up inside me. I deserve a little woodland faery play-time, too.
